Regionals team registration closes next Friday. All registrations are happening on the website: http://regionals.quda.org/
The present state of play:
SATURDAY
Firestorm, with 5 players, are looking likely to take down Stef as the sole Slamtown representative (Abra, think you registered as free agent before Stef added SFC as an option, might want to check your rego).
In the women's, we could see some upsets, as Jess may struggle to defend Black Betty's reign against 5 Cherry Bombers and even the 3 Purple Llamas.
SUNDAY (Open)
Through a combination of assumption and communication, I have Firestorm, Slamtown, Townsville and Ignition down for competitive finals on Sunday.
Guys and girls, please get registering. Yes, it's a new system, but this system will be used more in Australia. Set up your account once, and it's ready to go for any future events, just like on AFDA.
If you're having difficulty with rego, please firstly check your account and see that you've filled out the info there. At the very least, include your DOB and AFDA #; you won't be able to rego for this tourney without those details included (Soph, I think that's why yours is incomplete).

P.S. Good luck to FOUR Queensland teams heading to an interstate tourney this weekend... that'd have to be close to a record, off the top of my head.
Obviously people haven't gotten across the new Topscore registering system. It's extremely easy to use and like Jmac said, it's a system that will be used more and more in the future, so now's a perfect opportunity to give it a crack.
Even if you don't have a team organised for Saturday, sign up as a free agent and a team will be found for you. The more people that are signed up, the greater chance the Northern Region has of securing wildcard spots for the Australian Championships in April. Even if you're not playing rep ultimate, do you really want those wildcard spots to go to a bunch of Southern teams, when it could go to helping QLD Ultimate?

Regionals!
This just in:
All,
I'm excited to announce that Northern Regionals 2013 will be held on 16-17 March in Brisbane. Put that in your diaries.
The women's competition will be Saturday only. Men will play on Sunday as well.
Venue is TBA. There will, of course, be a rocking Saturday night party.
For those unaware, we are currently in the men's/women's competitive season, culminating in Nationals in late April. Regionals falls 6 weeks before Nationals, and serves two purposes:
a) Qualification/seeding for Nationals, for those teams aspiring to that level
b) A chance to play a men's/women's tournament for players of every standard, all around the country
As such, every level of player is very welcome to come and play, either submitting a team yourself or being connected with an existing team.
Summary: You! Come and play! :-)

If you're considering the idea of playing or not, get your act together and get a team together.

Queensland Open Championships Cleanup
We just thought we'd best pop our heads up from the Multi-Screen Operations Centre and Post-Nuclear Vault, where we've been crunching the results and numbers from the weekend's Queensland Open Ultimate Championships to give a quick report.
Administration
Several people haven't paid (we think). If you know this is you, please email JdR to arrange electronic payment. We may know who you are, and its never fair that everyone else gets around to paying and you don't. We're sorry we weren't more focused on this during the day, but we decided its better to run the tournament! ;)

Queensland Open Championships 2012 Preview
Your blogger has bitten way more off than he can chew this year, with TDing Regionals, Griffith stuff, QUDA stuff and real life, to properly preview this tournament. But who needs sleep!?
The tournament returns to Griffith Nathan which is looking shmick. Having the party at the Griffith campus pretty much straight after games finish (although time enough for southsiders to go home and shower I guess) is interesting. Pizza and a bar tab is always a drawcard. I See Red is a good theme - can't wait to see JackL and AndyL in their green outfits. Kinda negative in a photographic way.
Anyway, lets look at the teams.
Firestorm
The A1-AlphaDog-DominantLifeform-TopoftheFoodChain-ArnoldSchwarzenegger-ZombieLich-Galactus-CitizenKane-DalekEmperor of Northern Regionals. They laugh at this tournament (usually this is followed by a crack of thunder), and have managed to get it brought forward a week so they can get proper games at Easterns. And probably rightly so - once you've harvested the best talent and cut the chaff, as well as trained for months like the crazy eager buggers they are, what can you expect, aside from seeing Firestorm at the top of the trophy for another year.
Northerns Form: 2011 1st 2010 1st 2009 1st and 2nd (O/D squad); 2008 1st and 2nd (Troopers/Zippo), 2007 1st.
Player to Watch: All of the tricky beggars. Whoops, they've scored on you again. The one guy who probably hasn't flogged you before is named Dan. He'll flog you too apparently. And for the sake of Queensland pride at Nationals, please don't break any of them (treat J-Mac like he's your mother, which he is (spiritually)).
Towns-Villians
Evil, evil people from the True North, who will no doubt thrive in the hot and humid conditions this weekend. Like mould. Rumour has it that the Villians consider this a warmup tournament for coming again to smash and grab the Div2 Nationals title. We shall see. The roster may be a little short, but they've picked up a dark lords in the form of the best of the Cairns Mob, and as usual some dudes will just appear out of the blue. Looking forward to seeing the new outfits. Expect a forfeit on Sunday morning if tradition holds up.
Northerns Form: 2011 4th 2010 3rd 2009 4th (as Thor); 2008 3rd (as Thor); 2007 2nd (as Thor); 2006 4th (as No Panda).
Player to Watch: Hugh Osborne has moved to Perth like Hamish and Simone before him, but Keith is coming up from Tassie to drink JdR's liquour cabinet and play this one. Watch out for the guy in the old fashioned Dojo shirt.
Slamtown Flatball Club
Slamtown have had some highs and lows in their existence. This year's squad has been hardened up by the BPL, and boasts a very strong Byron Bay flavour. Expectations will be high, but if the gang parties like usual, Day 2 could be tough. If Northerns were My Kitchen Rules, these guys would be like those other famous Gold Coasters, Gary and Peter - know what they're doing but can seem a bit bitchy while doing it. Will battle Ignition to take the second Northern slot to Nationals, in some form or other.

Player to Watch: Stef Rappazzo of course. You can't help but look at him. Like a car wreck on legs. This guy is so tough he sweats blonde playgirls, craps steel I-beams and wees boiling tequila, lemon and salt - and that stuff doesn't have to fall far to hit the ground. Daughters should also be hidden from several members of this team. Jords will be much bigger this year, as he's going to Uni now and was apparently studying on Day 1, as will Dr Phil.
Firestorm Ignition
They've got Mansauce. What more should we bother mentioning? I guess we could give all the other nicknames for the players on the team, just so you can sort them out for your heckling when they take on Slamtown in the Semi-Final. There's Jacksauce, CarlieCarlCarl, NotCarlI'mNotRelatedToHimLeaveMeAloneManHeyIAmTooOver18, Brownsauce, Brownsauce with Chives, TimTom, TomTim, Bendy, Rednut the Fatarsed Wombat, Dazzler, Nugget, Dan Dan Revolution, the Big G, and Paul "I'm a Real Australian Now, Maaaayte, Gimme Some Tinnies or I'll Wooloomooloo Yer Woollangabba, Bloke" S. Want to get that second slot to Nats, rather than the 3rd slot.

Player to Watch: A mix of knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns, and various dressings. Um. Well, they're all kinda funny looking to watch. What the heck, let's talk up Guarin.
Griffith Heroes
A sexual chocolate of two prominent BUML Clubs, plus those darn Webb boys, who'll likely turn up in a 1969 Dodge Charger with the Confederate Flag painted on the roof and the doors welded shut. There's some young talent on this team, playing their first guy only games, which may suit dirty old swill-chucking farts like ... well basically Dusty and JdR. Still, lots of them have barely been on the same field together before, so expect their plays to be copied from Wikipedia.

Player to Watch: Let's mention Dan Cohen, who anchored the Griffith AUGs 2011 team and Luke Stark, because he reads this sometimes.
Gympie G-Force
WELCOME GYMPIE! This is awesome to have them at their first big gig. Lots of unknowns to this blog on their sheet, but then three of them played the Q-Hat Final last year, and they've got their KFC-stained hands on Hello Moto, That's Mr Litzow To You Punk, and Former President Boevink, so don't play them down.
Northerns Form: Zip
Player to Watch: Michael Daly has the highest AFDA number of the tournament, at 19490.
Note for tipsters - since you'll all (except maybe for Crazy Pete) be putting Firestorm at the top of your list, we suggest you also tip the round robin goal difference. Assuming five games to 17 and time cap of 90 minutes against the other teams, how many points will Firestorm score against how many will they let in?

Across the road from QEII Hospital.
Time: Gates open 7.45am. Games start at 9am. Games finish around 4.30-5.15pm. Cost: Women’s Hat - $20

Payment: Open - please pay your fees to your Captain before the event.

Team registration closes Friday 24 February, to allow the draw to be sorted. There are presently seven teams registered - Gympie G-Force, NQ Villains, Brisbane Firestorm, Brisbane Firestorm Ignition, the Gold Coast's Slamtown Flatball Club, Griffith University and the "Toowoomba" Heroes.
Player registration closes on Wednesday 29 February. Captains need to collect their players' money and forward it to the TD. Registering and paying on time means you'll get fed, as well as be properly insured.

QUDA Confirms Queensland Women's Fun Hat - Saturday 3 March
QUDA has announced the Queensland Women's Fun Hat will be held on Saturday 3 March, from 9am-5pm, at the Griffith University Sports Fields, off Kessels Rd , Nathan.
The cost of the day is $20, and this includes fields, insurance, lunch and prizes. The fee also includes joining the menfolk (who'll be playing on the field next door) at the party on Saturday night, as well as BBQ lunch if you want to watch the Open Final on Sunday afternoon.
The event is aimed at Queensland Women Ultimate players of all levels – from people having their first ever go, through to Australian representatives. QUDA’s objective is to ensure everyone attending has a great day, and over time to grow the Queensland Women’s Ultimate scene. The event replaces the Women's Division of Northern Regionals. We anticipate running the Fun Hat for a few years until demand for qualification to Women's Nationals grows beyond two teams.
There is no better way to get new women involved and to improve women’s skills in Ultimate (which is often played in the mixed format) than to play a women’s-only event.
QUDA’s investment in the event includes:
- subsidising the player fee down to $20, to make it attractive to as many players as possible;
- supporting several women from North Queensland flying down to play the event - yay, new ladies!
- preparing and distributing ‘women friendly’ promotional materials - http://quda.org/quda-promotional-material/
QUDA hopes that all experienced Brisbane Women players will join us in growing the scene, welcoming our female guests from Townsville, Cairns, the Gold Coast and Gympie, and having a great time!

The cost of the day is $20, and this includes fields, insurance, lunch and prizes. The fee also includes joining the menfolk (who'll be playing on the field next door) at the party on Saturday night, as well as BBQ lunch if you want to watch the Open Final on Sunday afternoon.
The event is aimed at Queensland Women Ultimate players of all levels – from people having their first ever go, through to Australian representatives. QUDA’s objective is to ensure everyone attending has a great day, and over time to grow the Queensland Women’s Ultimate scene. The event replaces the Women's Division of Northern Regionals. We anticipate running the Fun Hat for a few years until demand for qualification to Women's Nationals grows beyond two teams.
There is no better way to get new women involved and to improve women’s skills in Ultimate (which is often played in the mixed format) than to play a women’s-only event.
QUDA’s investment in the event includes:
- subsidising the player fee down to $20, to make it attractive to as many players as possible;
- supporting several women from North Queensland flying down to play the event - yay, new ladies!

QUDA hopes that all experienced Brisbane Women players will join us in growing the scene, welcoming our female guests from Townsville, Cairns, the Gold Coast and Gympie, and having a great time!

State Titles (aka Northern Regionals) Info Announced!

Looking Ahead - Northern Regionals aka Queensland Ultimate Championships 2012
So earlier this week QUDA put out the call for hosts to bid for the Queensland Ultimate Open/Women's Championships (aka Northern Regionals) and the Queensland Ultimate Mixed Championships (aka Halibut).
This seems as good a time as any to start some speculation commenting everyone (and of course, with BUML over JdR needs something else to blog about on Fridays).
Here's some triggers for your wild or not so wild thoughts.
Who's going to host, and where?
After the trip to Townsville in 2011, QUDA is getting Regionals back to SEQ, but that's a big space. The Griffith Club submitted their bid to host Regionals at Nathan to QUDA this morning (oo-yeah - inside gossip - we have our fingers everywhere here at the stately mansion!). There were rumours about the event going to the Gold Coast too. Sound good? Is anyone else bidding? What's important to a good bid? QUDA aims to confirm the hosts in early December.
Who's going to play?
Open division first. At the 'top end of town', Firestorm have started their season. Hopefully we'll see FS A and B again, or is that depending on whether or not the key Heroes players feel ready to stand on their own?
Slamtown and Townsville will no doubt turn fully up, to make things interesting in terms of who else qualifies for Nationals. Will 2012 see some B teams for these venerable groups?
At the newbie end of the scale - can Cairns make it under their own name (presumably grabbing a few stray Townsvill-ites?) Griffith's bid says that if they host they'll probably be able to enter a team for the first time, assuming their best players aren't lured elsewhere. Will the event being at the end of Week 2 of lectures enable enough time for some ambitious non-Firestorm UQ players to get a mob together? MattB is crossing his fingers for embers at Gympie and Toowoomba to burn ... can they ignite with the prospect of being able to tell their mums that they're going to the State Championships?
Meanwhile, the form of the Women's division each year has really depended on the level of ambition of key players. Black Betty will no doubt be there to do what they have to to qualify for Nationals, and before then be looking to hoover up the best players they can and the numbers to make their training sessions as good as they can be. Griffith's bid mentions running a Women's Hat on Saturday and then whatever qualification games are required on Sunday - is this the way to go?

Regionals 2011 Results
Here's one that I picked up on ye ol' Telepathy Machine.
While Northern Regionals 2011 (or the Queensland Open Ultimate Championships, as JdR reckons we should call them so that non-Ultimate players can understand what we’re on about) has been and gone, it’s the BUB’s role to provide a bit of a record for future historians.

By all reports it was stinking hot (Regionals being early this year as Nationals is earlier than usual), but the fields were good and the Townsville Ultimate community very welcoming.
Meanwhile in the Women’s Division, Black Betty won over Red Betty and Betty White in the single evening event in Brisbane.

I Heard a Rumour
1. Tip for the wise – never ever consider that going to play a BUML pickup game is more important than celebrating one’s wedding anniversary. Thankfully last week’s rain prevented a certain mountainous designer from making such a rookie mistake.
2. Apparently Thrustfest II – the Griffith Hat that’s coming up on 12 March – will feature a full on Uni student house party with spa and plenty of good spirit. Bonus is that people will be able to do a nude run from the AFL Field showers to the party under a reasonable amount of tree-cover. 3. Speaking of Griffith - nice new shirts were paraded at BUML on Monday. Are they going to be the only team showing off this season? Comment lines are open.

QUDA Confirms - Go (Way) North Young Man!
QUDA President Matt Boevink confirmed today that Northern Regionals 2011 (the Open Division anyway) will be held in Townsville on the weekend of 19-20 February.
Matt is encouraging all eligible South-East Queensland (and northern NSW) young males to book their flights asap. "You'll get on a team - you just get yourself there!" Return flights are presently in the realm of $150-200.
Townsville are promising to host a Regionals to remember, offering billets and airport pickups to everyone and promising a hot hot party to remember.
Word on the street outside the Firestorm international headquarters were that a few folks were peeved at having to spend a few more precious bucks than expected for what they'd view as their 'automatic' entry to Nationals 2011. However, the flamers seem to have sucked that up with confirmation of the BCI in Canberra in March (between Regionals and Nationals - remember Nationals is three weeks early next year) and recognition they've got to qualify like everyone else. No word yet on Firestorm B, but it seems unlikely that the brains trust will be interested in bringing newer players along when their focus will be laser-tight on trying to bring home a medal at their home Nats. If you otherwise missed it, training starts on 2 November!
Our pals Corey and Jay up in Cairns reckon they'll be able to put the bones of a team together - but anyone from SEQ who's looking to give them a hand will be very welcome. Having such a major event only four hour's drive away may be what gets Cairns Ultimate permanently on the map!
Senior players on the Gold Coast face a tough decision very soon - try to gain a spot on the Firestorm team in pursuit of personal glory, or dig deep and get the Slamtown Flatball Club first to Townsville and then onto Nats. Any early decision here may be important in attracting Brisbane based players who are looking for an option other than Firestorm, although the ambitions of key personalities just over the border in Byron Bay may be influential in the end.
Those in Brisbane may also want to look towards the Heroes, who are also commiting to Regionals and hold genuine hopes of qualifying for Nationals. The Heroes Senior Executive (now properly elected and all) are putting together a strategic plan that will take the Heroes to World Clubs 2014 in Columbia, and the next six months will be vital to developing talent.
The big winners of course are the TownsVillains in gaining a local qualification event after spending the six previous years travelling south. Hosting what's effectively the State titles is a great headline in recruiting and promoting Ultimate in Townsville, and of course they'll be able to put the absolute best of their locals on the field. A 'Townsville B' team is planned too, so as to begin exposing the future of Townsville Ultimate to some high level competition.
QUDA has indicated at this stage that it expects to keep the Women's division in Brisbane.

Nationals has been held over the ANZAC Day long weekend for several years, primarily to avoid Easter and the school holiday periods.
However, the 2011 Anzac Day long weekend coincides with Easter and school holidays in several states, making it a 'triple whammy' for organisers trying to find venues, Ultimate players with families who'd rather spend the holiday time with them, and cheap-arse Ultimate players who don't want to pay peak travel and accommodation prices.
The issue was first raised in February this year, and was discussed at the AFDA Annual General Meeting in April.
So Nationals 2011 will be held around three weeks earlier than usual, from Friday 1 April to Monday 4 April 2011.
Regionals is anticipated to occur around 19/20 February to maintain the six-week lead-in, and presumably other tournaments and team preparations will also be rescheduled. No doubt there are more announcements to come.

Northern Regionals Report
For anyone who otherwise missed it, here's the gin from TD EB
Hello players!
Well what a week it's been! It was only last weekend that Northern Regionals was held at JF O'Grady park in Fairfield - with great attendance from the major playing centres in Queensland/Northern NSW. Whilst the weather provided us all with some challenging playing conditions, it was great to see all teams putting in the hard yards and playing some exciting, competitive ultimate!
The finals rankings for the Open competition are as follows:

4. UQ Ultimate Lovers
5. Brisbane Barbarians.
As a result of this fantastic participation in the Open division, the Northern region has been allocated two slots for Nationals this year!! Congratulations to Firestorm and Slamtown Flatball Club for their invitation to participate in Nationals 2010, we know you will represent us well in Adelaide and do us proud!
In the Womens division, given that there was only one women's team vying for the Northern Womens's slot at Nationals, this year's competition was held as a hat tournament. This was open to all women in Queensland and a great day was had by all involved, with some evenly matched and competitive games. Congratulations to Black Betty who are also heading to Adelaide, representing the Northern women at Nationals! We are hoping that womens ultimate in Queensland will continue to grow so that we may soon be able to send two womens teams to Nationals.
Thanks to all who volunteered on the weekend, including TOC members Molly, Peta, Tati and Adilia, the Black Betty girls who came early to help set up each day, and to all the boys who helped us set up/down the tents and water coolers each day. It is the volunteer effort that really helps a tournament run smoothly on the day, and I really appreciate all of you who offered your help during the weekend! We look forward to another great year of ultimate in Queensland, and hope you will continue to be involved in the many leagues and tournaments that will be happening across the state this year!
Finally, the TOC have a couple of comments on the tournament that we would like to share with you all. As most of you would be aware, Black Betty ran Regionals this year as a fundraising exercise for their 2010 Nationals campaign. Unfortunately, the tournament has actually run at a loss, due to circumstances both on behalf of the TOC and the players. We feel it is important to let you know that this happened so it can be avoided in the future.
One problem we had was players registering to play but not turning up. A tournament’s final budget (particularly one this small) is largely determined by the number of players registered to play, which is why closing dates for items such as team and player registration are set. This means that if players register but don’t show up it instantly put the tournament organisers on the back foot in terms of their budgeting. If you register for a tournament and then for whatever reason are unable to play, please remove yourself from the AFDA rego page for that tournament as soon as possible.
Another problem was players registering to play two days and only playing (and thus paying) for one. The reason tournaments organisers offer the option to play only one day is that we realise people are often unable to commit to both days due to other commitments. Again, however, it is important for tournament organisers to know this prior to the start of the tournament.

Regionals Preview and Your Invitation to Tip
So after a bit of a cull, it looks like the Open Division of Northern Regionals has settled into five teams.
Lets go through the teams, and you can put your tips in below. Rosters can be viewed here.
The A1-AlphaDog-DominantLifeform-TopoftheFoodChain-ArnoldSchwarzenegger-ZombieLich-Galactus-CitizenKane-DalekEmperor of Northern Regionals. They laugh at this tournament (usually this is followed by a crack of thunder), and have started lobbying to skip it in future. And probably rightly so - once you've harvested the best talent and cut the chaff, as well as trained for months like the crazy eager buggers they are, what can you expect, aside from seeing Firestorm at the top of the trophy for another year.
Northerns Form: 2009 1st and 2nd (O/D squad); 2008 1st and 2nd (Troopers/Zippo), 2007 1st.
Player to Watch: All of the tricky beggars. Whoops, they've scored on you again. The one guy who probably hasn't flogged you before is named Rob. He'll flog you too apparently. And for the sake of Queensland pride at Nationals, please don't break any of them (treat Buzz like he's your mother, which he is (spiritually)).
Towns-Villians
Evil, evil people from the True North, who will no doubt thrive in the hot and humid conditions this weekend. Like mould. Rumour has it that the Villians consider this a warmup tournament for coming again to smash and grab the inaugural Bashionals title. We shall see. The roster may be a little short, but they've picked up a dark lord in the form of Vinko of the Sith, and as usual some dudes will just appear out of the blue. Looking forward to seeing the new outfits. Expect a forfeit on Sunday morning if tradition holds up.
Northerns Form: 2009 4th (as Thor); 2008 3rd (as Thor); 2007 2nd (as Thor); 2006 4th (as No Panda).
Player to Watch: Hugh Osborne will occasionally blog on you. Mike Larson keeps getting better (at what, we're not sure). Hamish.
Slamtown Flatball Club
Slamtown have had some highs and lows in their short modern existence. This year's squad has been hardened up by a game or two in the BPL, and boasts a very strong Byron Bay/Channon flavour. Expectations will be high, but if the gang similar to last year then day two could be tough again. If Northerns were Survivor Heroes and Villains, these guys would be Coach. Will likely take the second Northern slot to Nationals, in some form or other.
Northerns Form: 2009 5th; 2008 4th (as The Pass)
Player to Watch: Stef Rappazzo of course. You can't help but look at him. Like a car wreck on legs. This guy is so tough he sweats blonde playgirls, craps steel I-beams and wees boiling tequila, lemon and salt - and that stuff doesn't have to fall far to hit the ground. Daughters should also be hidden from several members of this team. Jords will be much bigger this year, as will Dr Phil.
Brisbane Barbarians
The team named after this blog. A horde of unknown size, made up random Brisbane residents, who's idea of training is taking the Beenleigh line to the Muddy Farmer and going for a run involves dealing with last night's curry. Somehow both the Dave Lister and the german speed metal scene of Queensland Ultimate. As with last year, depth and having local beds/meals/women to go to may be the difference over travelling teams, particularly on Day 2. Planning to win Bashionals.

Player to Watch: The Barbarians are a mix of knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns. Amongst the knowns, Rob Lowe will wave the QUDA credit card in front of you while cutting long. Amongst the unknowns, Fiji Ultimate's Neal Radcliffe is making the transition from dickin' around on the beach with bikini babes and a frisbee to some hard running Ultimate. How will he go? Amongst the unknown unknowns ... well, there's some dudes we met at BUML on Monday night who reckon they're coming down.
UQ Lovers Go with Trevor to Northerns
Only six registered as we type, but we're assuming UQ will get it together as it usually does (ie the last minute). While named the Lovers, this team will likely be very angry. Angry with having been cut from Firestorm. Angry with the GFC screwing up their plans of well paid easily-done GenY world travel and jobs. Angry with their flatmates, the women who say no to them, their parents. Angry at the whole damn world. And so they'll throw a lot of hammers. Should be planning to win Bashionals, but it might be a bit close to when assignments are due.
May we add though that its a great thing that members of best Ultimate Club in Queensland have finally removed themselves from the Firestorm teet and recognised that they should be playing at Regionals and driving towards Nationals in their own right. But we disgress). Is a home Nationals 2011 campaign on the cards? Expect their plays to be copied from Wikipedia.
Northerns Form: Unbelievably, UQ has never entered a team in this event. Unless you count Firestorm.
Player to Watch: Hard to say without knowing the full squad. Can Brenton, the star of AUGs, continue his upward trajectory?
Note for tipsters - since you'll all (except maybe for Crazy Pete) be putting Firestorm at the top of your list, we suggest you also tip the round robin goal difference. Assuming four games to 15 and time cap of 80 minutes against the other teams, how many points will Firestorm score against how many will they let in?
Also, why not try tipping the winners of Easterns and Southerns?

Townsville Just Over 24 Hours Away from Top 3 Place at Regionals 2010
The TD's for Northern Regionals 2010 (aka the Queensland Open and Women's Ultimate State Championships) have reminded the Open Captains about the registration rules.
For a team to be included in the Open draw, they need to have 8 players registered here by Tuesday.
At this stage, only the Gold Coast's Slamtown Flatball Club, the Brisbane Barbarians and the Towns-villans meet that criteria. Don't forget the top three teams get their names on the trophy! Plus this could be a 2 in 3 chance for any of these three Clubs to be booking their tickets to Nationals!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
The title of this post was so lame, we donated $20 to Colette's Shave for a Cure effort in support of Leukaemia research. Why don't you?

I'm taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation World's Greatest Shave this year! So in exactly one week I'll be a true egg-head - EEK!!! Now that the initial buzz of signing up has worn off, it's actually rather intimidating. Northern Regionals aka Queensland Open/Women's State Championships - Less Than Two Weeks Away!
Holy moly - with all the attention given to the BCI on the weekend, some folks are realising with surprise that Northern Regionals aka the Queensland Open/Women's State Championships, are on next weekend 13-14 March!

Don't forget - this tournament is open to EVERYONE. Its not an elite event. For many League players, this is their annual 'just playing with the boys or girls' weekend, rather than the usual Mixed fun. So get yourself on a team!

Tournament Season - Looking GREAT!
In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the good news about the 2010 Open/Women’s season, all in one place (and we're happy to edit if you've got some extra stuff to tell us ... [which we now have!].
Since the introduction of Regionals in 2005, there has been an occasional moan from folks who remember the days of leading into Nationals with a few warm up tournaments – Seeds of Doom, the Border Classic and so forth.
Regionals was a necessary addition to the season, but it seems its only been in the last year or two that folks have looked up from organising their clubs and aiming at Regionals/Nationals, and started to organise a few events and plan for their club to make it more of a season again.
This is great news, recalling as we have ranted elsewhere that some clubs were getting to the point of having 40+ training sessions to play a handful of games at Regionals and 6-7 games at Nationals!
So here’s how the calendar is playing out:
30-31 January – Golden City Classic – Ballarat, Victoria

While its hard to callan inaugural the second year of an event a ‘classic’ as yet, Simmo and the mob in Ballarat have led the charge with getting the Open and Women’s season going, and that's classy. This tournament is going to make a name for itself, with strong support from the Victorian clubs (Chilly, Heads of State, Honey and Sporting Athletico all sending two teams), and the clever enticement of some interstate teams (Brisbane’s Sultry in the Women’s Division, and Adelaide’s Ultimate Evolution in the Open) will make the event all the more attractive for any last minute local and interstate gangs to get together.

Becoming a great and fun way for Aussie clubs to prepare for Nationals, and generally delivering quality games against unfamiliar faces. Its Gonna Be Huge
It occured to us here at stately Brisbane Ultimate Blog manor, that there's going to be some huge Ultimate events occuring in our neighbourhood over the next 18 months.
The Brisbane-Canberra Invitational is scheduled for 27-28 February, here in Brisbane. The tournament's goal is to invite 8 Open and 8 Women's teams to compete. This makes this baby bigger than any Halibut, particularly as you'd anticipate teams bringing large squads, as they're usually serious groups preparing for Nationals glory. Less than 10 weeks away. TD John McNaughton probably needs your help!
Halibut 2010 on 31 July and 1 August will of course be the usual large affair, even with some of the national elite having been occupied in Prague earlier that month. I'd expect at least 12 teams, same as last year, particularly if a TD gets on board soon as is able to start promoting the tournament.
Then in less than 18 months time, the Northern Region is due to host the Australian National Ultimate Championships 2011 over the Anzac Day long weekend in April of that year. A massive 32 teams are anticipated to descend on Brisbane to fight it out - this will be the biggest Ultimate event ever held on Queensland soil. Are we up to it?
Perhaps one thing that will make life easier for the Brisbane organiser types will be the suggestion that Townsville bid to host Northern Regionals 2011. What an exciting thought!?! After all the years of Townsville teams treking down to play in the South East corner, the flow may go in the other direction. The Brisbane-Canberra Invitational is scheduled for 27-28 February, here in Brisbane. The tournament's goal is to invite 8 Open and 8 Women's teams to compete. This makes this baby bigger than any Halibut, particularly as you'd anticipate teams bringing large squads, as they're usually serious groups preparing for Nationals glory. Less than 10 weeks away. TD John McNaughton probably needs your help!
Halibut 2010 on 31 July and 1 August will of course be the usual large affair, even with some of the national elite having been occupied in Prague earlier that month. I'd expect at least 12 teams, same as last year, particularly if a TD gets on board soon as is able to start promoting the tournament.
Then in less than 18 months time, the Northern Region is due to host the Australian National Ultimate Championships 2011 over the Anzac Day long weekend in April of that year. A massive 32 teams are anticipated to descend on Brisbane to fight it out - this will be the biggest Ultimate event ever held on Queensland soil. Are we up to it?
Perhaps one thing that will make life easier for the Brisbane organiser types will be the suggestion that Townsville bid to host Northern Regionals 2011. What an exciting thought!?! After all the years of Townsville teams treking down to play in the South East corner, the flow may go in the other direction.
