Blimey, we're blogging about Disc Golf (Bout time?)

JdR has left the Pool Room and has sent this telegram:

"For the historical record and your children's children's interest (when know down disc golf dominates the universe), here are the results from the recent disc golf tournament the Queensland Big Bash. Looks like the gang from the Brisbane Disc Golf Club are starting to generate some solid numbers!"

If you look at it long enough, it starts to make sense. You need to focus but relax your eyes at the same time.

How's He Going to Carry 12 Frisbees? Just Give Him MORE!

Donations for JdR's charity run for the Royal Children's Hospital through the Clem7 tunnel have hit $250!

That means he's pledge to carry 12 frisbees on the 10km journey through the Brisbane underworld.

Special thanks to Ultimate community members and regular blog readers, aL 'the Don of Dons' Don, Stu 'Pants, as in "That's so pants"' Austin, Owen 'O-Shep' Shepherd, Andrew 'Mansauce, the World is Better with Mansauce' McKasker, and Adam 'Jangles' Beu for their donations. Please pat these guys (sadly, no gals) on the back when you see them.

If you need an extra reason to pull out that more of your Earth money ... JdR's non-Ultimate friends (are there such things?) are well ahead of the Ultimate community in making donations!

So c'mon Brisbane Ultimate (and beyond), lift your game!

Here's all those details again. Remember, you can donate as little as $2 ... it all adds up!

Ok everyone - there was some recent action in the stately mansion, which
has resulted in the Brisbane Ultimate Blog's own JdR deciding to take on the
challenge of the Clem7 Tunnel Charity Run. The charity bit for the run supports the Royal Children's Hospital - yep, its for sick kids (not "fully sick" like Trevor or
Paige, we mean "really ill").

You can sponsor JdR by going to: http://www.imworkingwonders.com.au/personalPage.aspx?SID=95751

To spice things up, for every $20 donated, JdR will carry a frisbee on the run. So if say he gets $200, he'll be carrying 10 frisbees (1.175kg of plastic), jovially waving them around to the other runners and such, (depending on his fatigue levels of course). [Edit - yes, you can just donate $5 - the $20 bit is the added up thing]
Yep, make a donation and you get to help kids, encourage JdR doing something silly, and promote flying disc sports, all in one go! Now, there's VALUE FOR MONEY.

Get Your Disc Out for a Free Beer

With the public holiday in Brisbane this Wednesday, there are some folks getting together for an Ultimate socialising and drinking session this Tuesday night (11 August).

It'll be on at the RE (aka Royal Exchange) Hotel in Toowong - right near Toowong Railway Station and the Toowong Village Shopping Centre, and also very convenient to the University of Queensland. From 7pm.

BRING YOUR DISC - if you have your disc out, Molly (or someone Molly nominates) will buy you a beer (at least until the money, proudly supplied by the Brisbane Ultimate Blog, runs out)

That's RIGHT Ulti-FANS - the Brisbane Ultimate Blog is adding to your fun, by encouraging you to GET YOUR DISC OUT and show people what a frisbee is, and maybe they'll even ask you what its all about.

Late Get Your Disc Out .... In the Air Up There

Just to finish our Friday off, we got this email:
Hi Jason,

I took this picture the last day of February on my way to the Canberra Invitational. It was on Emma’s camera so I just got around to getting back the picture! I know it’s too late but I tried! Do I win $5?

Stephanie.

Sorry Steph, we're all out of cash. But thanks for GETTING YOUR DISC OUT!

Get Your Disc Out ... THE WINNER!

2009's Get Your Disc Out competition, run throughout February, has produced a winner!

After a split decision, the judges panel are awarding the $100 to big Ben Hutchinson and the QUT kids, for their crazy efforts at the Chinchilla Melon Festival!

Ben - see us at the fields or send us your bank details. We hope you will spend the money on some sort of QUT disc, rather than continuing with your UQ one.

While we were a little surprised at not getting more of a response, we at the Brisbane Ultimate Blog are proud to have run this little competition and gotten people to GET THEIR DISCS OUT, and look forward to running it again later in the year (perhaps with more $cash$ or *prizes* on offer).

Thanks again to all the participants, and those who said "That's a bloody great idea!" or "Man, if I get through that Wipeout audition, I'm hoping they call me "Frisboo the Frisbee Man!"

Get Your Disc Out ... at the Chinchilla Melon Festival!

With only a few days to go, entries are starting to huck on in. Here's the latest:

Hi Brisbane Ultimate Blog,
Most of the QUTies team went to the Chinchilla Melon Festival last weekend, and so I thought I should put an entry in to the comp.
My favourite is with the watermelon mascot. I held up the entire
parade for that one :)

Get Your Disc Out ... At Tropfest!

Mr Rueben Berg has supplied us with these photos of Liz Edye and Friends at Tropfest at the Myer Music Bowl on 22 February, 2009.
I suspect these are the current frontrunners for the $100! Not a lot of throwing here though - can you top it? Only a few days to go .....

GET YOUR DISC OUT! First Entry!

Only a couple of days into the competition, and we've received our first entry!

Here's the note from Pete McNaughton:

"Hey mate - here's a pic of playing frisbee on the salt pans of Lake Eyre in about 55 degree heat a few weeks ago. May not exactly be GETTING THE DISC OUT in front of many people (there were almost definitely only 3 other people within a few hundred kms) but I thought it was a suitably exotic location to send it anyway. Cheers, Pete."

As Pete can probably guess, it won't be too hard for someone to GET THE DISC OUT in front of a few more people than he did, but at the moment, the $100 is heading his way!

Get Your Disc Out for $100

The Brisbane Ultimate Blog is offering a $100 as our first prize for our inaugural GET YOUR DISC OUT competition.

Inspired by the Triple J radio station's well known 'Beat the Drum' contest, GET YOUR DISC OUT is about getting your frisbee out where people can see it, and promoting Ultimate in the process.

To enter, you need to send us a photo (to jjderooy at yahoo dot co dot uk) of you GETTING YOUR DISC OUT somewhere in Australia, along with a bit of the story (just in case its not clear from the shot).

You need to do this by the end of February - the winner will be announced on 1 March or thereabouts.

Our judging panel will be interested in creativity, entertainment, and just how many people you can GET YOUR DISC OUT in front of.
  • Maybe you'll carry your frisbee out and proud while catching your train to work all month.

  • Maybe you'll do some lunchtime throws in the City Square or next to the Freeway.

  • Maybe you'll do a nude run through a crowded lecture theatre with just a couple of frisbees to cover your nakedness.
We're sure you'll have plenty of ideas! Good luck!
