Its been quiet down here in the retirement room of the stately Brisbane Ultimate Blog mansion since we handed the keys over to DStrel, but we figured we'd pop our heads above the parapet to throw up some inspiration for someone, anyone out there.
Here's this particular part of the manifesto. Brisbane desperately needs a Youth Ultimate League of some sort. There's lots of focus on getting Ultimate played at school, and that's cool. That's a ticket towards the mainstream.
But kids play a lot of their sport outside school - particularly keen and future elite kids. They play cricket and footy and netball and soccer on weekends, and train on weeknights.
Brisbane needs someone to step up and start organising this. Start with a big net of say 19 and under, and play a weekly pickup game (allow a limited number of commited 'adult' coaches to play and supervise. Get BUDA or QUDA to find you a proper field and help you with some promotion - particularly at the schools that are getting a bit of Ultimate happening during school hours. Get the numbers to a point you can establish a competition.
These kids will be running Uni Clubs and Black Betty and Firestorm in the future - let's get them in while they're 15 and 16 and so on.

Young Talent Time
The Australian u19 Open and Women's teams are having their second last training camp at JF O'Grady Memorial Fields off Brougham St in Fairfield here in Brisbane this weekend, before jetting off to the World Junior Ultimate Championships in Germany in something like 80 days or so time.
This is a great chance to go down and check out the talent. A coup too for Brisbane to be the base for this camp and the next. The computronic system here in the stately Brisbane Ultimate Disc mansion tells us they'll inject $40,000 into the local economy, as well as increase the happiness index considerably!
Aside from the mad training, the teams will also be playing games against Brisbane-based players at 1pm on Saturday and 1.30pm on Sunday. This'll be a good time to go down for a look.
Why not drop by and show your support? Remember, there are eight Queensland-based players in the squads who'd love to see you there.

No, its not the New York Unicyclists Club, nor some sort of Three Stooges reference. NYUC is the Northern Youth Ultimate Camp, which has just launched its website. And we're lucky enough to have this baby happening in Brisbane!

Golden Compass
As reported via email, our local juniors team is go Go GO for the Australian Youth Ultimate Championships. Good luck fellas and well done team and organisers. My favourite piece of comedy/tragedy so far is that the spare bus driver had to be bumped to make room for the players!
Anyway, so far the team has been named "Northern Lights" which isn't bad for a first effort (something needs to go on the rego sheet, after all). Now I am sure that the bus trip will make for some deep introspection* from the lads as regards a "proper" name, but consider the comments section open for your suggestions!
The team:
- Torren ‘Toz’ Lamont, he of the Byron Clan, lean of muscle, quick of grin.
- Isaac ‘Izzy’, Abraham ‘Abi’ and Jordan ‘Jordy’ Stone, the brothers three of the MIGHTY Channon, Disciples of the Donnie,
- Tane Crosby, the great unknown, the rolling darkness.
- Zac ‘Devinity’ Devine, the nickname says it all.
- Tarik ‘Ricky’ Sandhu, from out west past Birdsville or something.
- Jack ‘Birch’ Lilwall, everything to see here, stop moving along and look.
- Reece Stewart, top BPL player.
- Will Larkin, Captain Carrot, leader of the Zoo Crew.
- Trevor Lovering, not an eediot.
- James ‘JJ’ Jackson, master of damage.
- Doug Crowley, the Dog of War.
(any improvements on this mostly made up commentary are most welcome)
As Bruce the Bruce points out, "If you see any of these guys around the traps, tap them on the shoulder and give them your best wishes."
And don't forget, there's plenty of opportunity to give their foes the old on-line flaming over at Ulti-talk (link up top left). And here's a silly photo for no real reason.

Bulletin Board
ITEM: There's been a changing of the guard over at the UQ Club, with gangrenous Gref stepping up to take the Presidency, the jive-talkin' Julz slipping around in the Veep role, and fan-favourite jocular James Jackson wearing the Secretary pants. Meanwhile postumous pouncing Pete Allen has stepped back from day-to-day management, although if you need strings pulled, keep his number in your little black book or public restroom stall.
ITEM: Gold Coast League kicked off last night, and the LD was so keen he mailed out the scores as soon as he got home from the pub. Team Bob defeated Heat 12-8, while The Hard Road edged out Three Immobile 10-8. New players are welcome throughout the next five weeks of the season.
ITEM: A few of the posse got around to watch the KGSHS Junkies take on the MSHS Stranglers on Saturday, for a festival of huck and chase. In the end, it was Junkies 15, Stranglers 4. MVPs were Junkie Lewis Knox, and Strangler Rashaun “Kamikaze” Hoh who showed the ground who was boss.
ITEM: It looks like folks can't get enough of WWOS, with reports coming in from around the country (well, three at least) of new people turning up to find out "what this Ultimate Frisbee thing is all about" and youtube downloads hitting 1,400.
