Applause, Recognition, and a Little Notoriety for QUT Ultimate

It's often the case here at the Brisbane Ultimate Blog that we get caught up in UQ's status as the biggest and best Ultimate Club in Queensland, but today there's great news from cross-town rivals QUT (and thanks for the qutest of all, Jangles, for sharing the news).

At the Annual QUT Sports Awards, QUTie Sam Bird was recognised for her tireless efforts as QUT Sports Manager of the Year!

The profile of the QUT Ultimate Club was further raised when it became the inaugural winner of the prestigious and high profile Worst Club in the History of QUT, which is a pretty significant achievement.

No wonder the Club has entered its largest team ever in the current BUML (leading to them cutting some of their stars of yesterday, like Chaddie).

Well done QUTIES!

Well done QUT.
What JDR meant to say was "UQ's status as the biggest and best Ultimate SUPERclub in Queensland"

That award seems harsh

I can't appreciate the humour behind that title that went to the club.
It wouldn't say alot to the confidence of those who are running the show over at QUT particuarly if they are putting in work to try and keep the struggling club alive to have people point out your hard times and make fun of it.
I'm more of a fan of encouragement rather than throwing spotlight on the negative

I hope whomever at QUT sees the award is unlike me and doesn't take that too seriously otherwise potential downer. On a side note. How would such an award hurt recruitment for next year?

Not a cool award IMO and worth little more than a cheap laugh.

Hi Will-i-am,

As a member of the QUT team for uni games, I can tell you that we were ecstatic to get that award. I myself played an important role in getting it, with my rubbish throws and general lack of ability.

It is important to remember the context in which the award was given out. It was handed out with other awards such as worst behaviour on tour, worst manager, ugliest looking team, etc. We were up against mixed netball for that award, and we would have been devastated if a team with the pure talent of mixed netty (I think they won 1 game) had won it.

In regards to recruitment, we actually have too many players, and people waiting in the wings to get into the team, so it hasn't hurt numbers.

I think Will was referring to recruitment towards more than one team. You can't have too many players, you shouldn't be thinking towards recruiting for AUGs, but towards your own working league like the one you guys used to have.

we hope to have that back and running soon. Just need the ok to have the fields back. Yay for new vsu.

we are hoping to have 2 teams in YUFL next year Div1 and Div2 if they are continuing with that split otherwise a fun and not as fun team.
