BPL 2008-2 Round 10 Draw

Final week of the "home and away" season (although all games are at the same venue).
The semi finals are going to shape up like this: The winner of the top game (on the draw above) will play the loser of the middle game, and the winner of the middle game will play the loser of the top game.
Lovers and Rawhide are playing each other this week, and will play each other again next week. I'm sure they are looking forward to that!

I have a question for the 2 potential LDs of next season: Will the draw still be designed such that the team who comes 3rd this season gets Field 3 as their home field next season?

Having put up with 8 out of 10 games there in the dark in season 1 this year, Im thinking it might not be such a bad thing if we lost this week and came 4th. Correct me if Im wrong, but the loser of Passion vs Messy will not be assigned a home field next season and will probably only play 3 or 4 games on that field next season, while the winner will play 8.

In my opinion, the draw policy should be changed so that every team plays approx. the same number of games on field 3.

ps Wetnose - where is the updated tipping table from last week???

pps Anyone care to share their intel on the Messy roster this week? Johnny Mac - you must know something. What are you tipping???

ppps I'm with Julz re sharing the Field 3 burden (until the lights are upgraded). Where I'm not with Julz is in his posting of a comment before reading the main post itself. All your questions are answered right there on the blog big guy...

The loser of Passion v Messy may get a home field next season, because they may win their semi final and therefore will play in the grand final and finish either 1st or 2nd. I think that sharing the burden of the dark field around is a good idea, and is something I would bring in if I was appointed as new LD.
Sensei, as was said after round 7, in an effort to make it somewhat of a surprise come the end of the season, the tipping table will now not be released until the end of the season when the winner is announced. Also, before anyone asks, finals will not be included in the tipping comp. Also, I am fully aware of the Messy roster Sensei, and will sell for a fee :-D.

My tips: Dojo, Messy, Lovers.

Fair enough that the loser of that game may still get a home field if they win their semi final. My point was that if both the 3rd and 4th teams on the table lost in the semis, the team in 4th would be in a more favourable position regarding the draw next season (assuming that the policy is not changed). I guess its even possible that the team who finish 2nd could be assigned field 3 as a home field if both the 3rd and 4th teams won their semis.

By the way, Sensei, I did read and then re-read the main post, and I don't understand how that answers the questions I asked in my comment, which were regarding draw policy and whether it may change next season - is there somewhere else on the blog where my questions were answered? If so, I apologise...

I have to say I agree with Julz. Having field three as a home field is hardly a 'reward' for coming 3rd, compared to 4th, 5th or 6th.

If someone can up with a draw where 1st and 2nd get rewarded with having fields 1 and 2 as their homes, while making an even spread of teams 3-6 using field 3, I think that would be better.

If a draw that does that isn't possible, then I'd rather see an equal sharing across all six teams.

My tips - Dojo, Passion, Rawhide

Yo Julz.

You know I love your style, it just seemed pretty clear in Wetnose's blurb that this week's winner/loser of Messy v Passion will play the loser/winner of Slippry v Dojo in the semis, and therefore all four of those teams are still in the running to finish in any of the top 4 places, thereby giving all the hope of securing Fields 1 & 2 next season... Simple, eh?

Or were you just assuming Passion & Messy would not make the final? Show some faith, baby!

And of course no-one wants to win the 3rd/4th playoff if it means having Field 3 all season - why do you think Dojo threw that game last season???

I'm now with JDR's tweek of Julz' original proposal, whereby the season winners and runners-up get Fields 1 & 2 as home fields all season, and Field 3 is shared equally amongst everyone else (with winner & runner-up having an away game there as well). I'll vote for whichever LD comes up with a draw to make that work... :)

Sensei, did you throw the non-existent 3rd/4th playoff last year? How very sneaky of you to do it without it ever happening. The reason Lovers got the field was because they finished 2nd on the ladder, but lost their semi final, thus finished 3rd. Dojo finished fourth because they lost their semi final to Passion. Or was there some sort of Wasabi eating contest that we weren't informed of...

I wasn't "assuming" Passion and Messy wouldn't make the final, just pointing out what would happen in this scenario. However, surely I could be forgiven for lacking some confidence after being on the receiving end of a Dojo schooling last week?

Anyway - I don't think its worth getting into a blog fight about it. I'll just say I hope Passion and Dojo can square off again in the finals - you know how much I like the friendly banter!

Also - completely agree with jdr's proposal about only the finalists getting home fields. How will our two fine LD candidates address this issue on the campaign trail???

10 comments (11 now...) and only 4 tips entered so far - this is going to be a record posting for the Brisbane Ultimate Blog!

Wet, you've seen straight through my attempt at re-writing history, although if we'd found ourselves third at the end of the season we would have been shouting pretty loud about wanting a 3/4 playoff that we then could have thrown...

Anyway, would you pretenders to the LD throne stop wasting time with blog comments and get busy putting together your election policies?

First things first, not really worth it since I'm most likely top of the tipping table anyway:

Tips: Dojo, Messy, Lovers

Now, I'm going to rant about this field thing because I'm putting off study. Just point out it is not really a disadvantage playing on the field all season it's just not as nice on the well toned UQ lovers legs and feels like you are being punished for coming 3rd because it's dark. BUT we can't really fix that and I think Jon has done well with the fields so stop whinging. And Sensei, you should give Julz some slack, he was probably coming down from a caffeine high and dripping blood from multiple stab wounds.

When will the new LD be announced, last time I checked the vote was a little one-sided.

(only if Dojo play with 6 this week hey sensei ;)

as for the field situation. I can't recall but are there people playing on the fields up the other end of the grounds? The fields that are used on monday league i mean. why dont we just put the field there?

HAH Julz, shouldn't have tipped Messy

you all shouldnt have tipped dojo. funny thing is sensei with the tactical 4feit and he tipped dojo. oh well that makes up for me tipping messy.

I was watching that Passion v Messy game thinking "Geez - Julz looks a bit flat tonight, I always thought he was a better player than that...". Now I know why. Tipping against your own team is a truly disgraceful thing...

And now I've really p1ssed him off so he'll BRING IT big time against Dojo next week... We might even need a 7th player!

Jules said...

Ok, firstly can I say that I am definitely not the first to tip against my own team this season. And for the record, at the time I entered my tips I wasn't actually planning to play last night.

Sensei - sly move with the forfeit last night, but I can see right through it. You just wanted to play Passion again in the semi, right? I know how much you love the pink shirts.

Also - I would have thought after Dojo's turnout last night that a 5th player would be your first priority? Surely thinking about a 7th is getting ahead of yourselves...?
