Double the Posting Power!

Rueben in his wisdom has invited me to also post here at the Brisbane Ultimate Disc Blog.

So lets start with some questions that have been plaguing me.

1. What is the origin of the name "Dojo Mojo"?
2. How quickly should I do something about the Brisbane Indoor Air-Con Ultimate Hat?
3. What percentage of the copies of Australian Ultimate that I mail out end up in the bin a week later?
4. Can Whippet Good continue their undefeated run in the coming BPL season?
5. Is it going to stop being hot any time soon?

If you have answers to any of these questions, let me know.

I could maybe shed some light on the first one:

"Cobra Kai Frisbee Dojo" is the original team where the "dojo" name derives from. This was invented by Jay Sansness/David Watson and originates from the Karate Kid movies.

The Karate Kid theme was first used by the UQ mixed team at 98,99? uni games in Canberra where "Sweep the leg, Johnny" was a common cry from the sidelines. Gen Healy, Al Don, Dan Walls, Dave Watson, Ryan Black and Barry from UK were all members of this team.

The original members of the frisbee dojo team were Jay Sansness, Dave Watson, Dan Walls, Ryan Black, Joel Smith? and a bunch of others.

I think thats mostly correct.

1. Plenty of historians out there can answer this.

2. The Indoor Air-Con Hat should go go go ASAP. It probably wont be a hugely competitive event in it's own right, but has excellent promotional value. When you put Ultimate up against mixed "netty" or indoor soccer it can look very, very good. The downside is the cost - which can be prohibitive, unless it is subsidised by QUDA..

3. People only keep their AU's when they've got a photo or an article published which features them in a flattering light. So the retention rate is probably high amongst those (mostly Southern) butt-lickers, but I'd say that the bin figure is up around 85, maybe 90% for the rest of us...

4. Whippet Good are as good as dead. The only team they will beat in the coming season will be Dojo.

5. Dont you read the papers? It's just gonna get hotter, and hotter, and hotter.

I keep all my AU newsletters filed in chronological order in my filing cabinet under "Ultimate".

I thought everyone did that????

I can't let this go without mention a few of the young ladies who were original cobra kai frisbee dojo members when they made their first appearance at the poorly attended september halibut of 2000. The likes of Koby Black (Ryan's hugely talented sister who we haven't seen much of since), Lisi Jarrott and Danielle Rigden. Yes, there were only 3. I believe the mix was 6-2. Other members included 'Fj' Holden (Jay's cousin), Dan Grundy and yes Joel Smith was indeed roped in. I can still remember the afro on the karate man's head...big hair was so in.
