... Akin to GODS!

You should definitely click to make this one bigger.Speaking of dedicated ... how impressive it is that six guys from Townsville are driving down on Friday and back on Monday for this week's tournament?

When you're playing Thor - make sure you give the guys a big pat on the back and a thanks for coming all this way.

Yo JDR - that's two comic book excerpts and a reference to D&D from you in the past week. So that got me thinking that if you took that "which Simpsons character are you?" test, you'd very likely end up being the comic store guy. Who, it turns out, you also kind of look like. In a nice way, I mean...

Oh, and it's a big effort for the Thor guys & all, but the record for tournament road trips is still held by The Sullivans (2002 Savage Sevens) who drove from Brisbane to Sydney on Saturday, won the one-day 7-a-side tournament on Sunday, and drove back that night, returning home safe 'n sound around 6am Monday morning. Some even turned up to work that day (briefly).

I have been thinking about matching up every BPL player to their Simpsons avatar .... but let us save that for another post.

love the comic JDR. If only drunkeness was close to godliness, then Thor would without doubt be .... AKIN TO GODS!

Melbourne Hat 2001: the drive down was split over Thursday/Friday, with myself, Dad, Dan and Emma Tickle... The return trip was done in one day, leaving at 5am Monday morning and getting in about 1am on Tuesday. From memory, I think Dad was the only driver, too (as Dan stayed in Melbourne).

Also two cars who just went down to the Terrigal Towel this weekend (a beach hat), driving down on Friday afternoon, and leaving straight after the tourney on Sunday. One car got in at 3am Monday, the other took the wrong highway and didn't get back till 7am (and both drivers in that car were on the winning team at the tourney).

I daresay there are similar stories out there from past eras...

Ballarat once drove to Sydney on a Saturday, went out all night on the Saturday (three players went straight to the fields and played the first game in the same clothes) played the Sydney IV (finished 5th), and drove home that night for uni the Monday morning.

And I remember hearing a story (may be urban legend) from years ago about someone who hitchhiked from Perth in bare feet, to play in the Melbourne Hat in bare feet, then hitchhiked back to Perth in bare feet.

All these little stories of travel are nice, but Townsville do it twice every year - for Regionals and Halibut.

word has it that MattA used to fly down to Buggers weekend training.
those townsville lads are well hard (which does not indocate a judgement on the "hardness" of anyone else - hiching from perth regardless of barefeet is a hard ask).
