This picture says everything you sometimes need to say about Ultimate.

Is Berry reacting to the news that Firestorm trained like m*t*a*u*k*rs for months and then won three from nine and came 8th at Nats?

Ghengis won three from nine and came 15th. It's not the number of games you win, its the quality of who you beat that counts.

Nice post anonymous. Maybe tell us who you are so we at least make an informed rebuttal.

Well, we continue to tolerate snarky anonymous comments here at BUB, if only because they bring up the difficult ones.

With hindsight (wonder that it is), is there anything you'd have done differently, Pete?

Should the wider Brisbane Ulti-community start discussing how it wants to approach our home Nats in 2011 now, while the experience of Nats2010 is fresh?

Regardless of the outcome at Nats, its the journey thats the most rewarding. I dont for a second regret the months of intensive training that we did for this campaign. Sure it would have been nice to go better at the end event, but that doesnt change how much fun it was along the way.

Agreed Julz - Firestorm trained hard because training was fun, improving yourself was fun, seeing the same friends regularly was fun.

The opportunity next year of having a home nats gives us the chance to mix up the preparation a little bit. I think the main thing missing from this campaign was game time against high quality opponents. Whilst it was obvious that we were a skilled and fit team, it was also obvious that we haven't really had the experience against various teams and weren't able to change up our game plan that much when something wasn't working. So next year hopefully the team will be willing to travel to a couple of tournies (BCI, Golden City?, maybe eastern regionals) to get that match practice.

Otherwise, it was a great season, we may not have equalled last years placing, but we did at least have a crack at the top 4 this year by playing the top teams on day 2 and 3, and if we managed to put together a full game against most of them we would have been right in the mix, considering we took the 2nd place team 8-7 at half then just fell away in the second for some reason.
The team got along well, and it will be exciting to see if the same core of players will be around next season to build on what we did this year.

As for discussing the 2011 nats, early organisation will make things easier in the long run.
