Cairns Ultimate League on Tuesdays (aka CULT) starts tonight! Check out the preview on the new Cairns Ultimate Blog, and get your tips in. Brisbane folks will look closely at the squads lead by ex-Cobra Wetnose, and ex-Dojo Jay, while people who were up for Northerns in March will be estimating the growth of the likes of Alecha and Jamie. http://cairnsultimatedisc.blogspot.com/

Cairns Ultimate Better Than Brisbane Ultimate? Say It Isn't So!
Cairns Ultimate is enjoying massive media attention, at least what rates for massive media attention in their fine, North Queensland city.
We for one love the repeated use of 'catchy'. Gonna have to use that one.
Drop the article a comment if you care about Ultimate in Queensland! :)
Is it also possible that Jamie has grown even taller than when some of us met him at Regionals back in February?

Ultimate Frisbee in Cairns - May 2010 Update
We here at stately Brisbane Ultimate Blog occasionally receive an inquiry about Ultimate Frisbee in Cairns, and to save ourselves some time we figured we'd post a bit of info here.
A main reason for these inquiries is the number of people who visit Cairns for a few days or weeks or months, and are looking for a run around.
When we last posted, there wasn't much going on.
But we've received an update from some locals, and yes there is now a regular game:

In Cairns we have a regular game on every Thursday except when it POURS!
We often get about 6 on 6 of regular players.
We play at 5 pm (often 5.15-5.30 ish until dark, outside the Cairns
Hospital on The Esplanade).

Mission Complete
We forgot to pass on Super-Keith's Mission Beach Tournament report - but given the Townsville Hat is on this weekend (its surely not too late to find a cheap flight and fly up with Notty and Tomsteve), we figured we'd better catch up on our records!
"The Mission Impossible Tourney was played on Easter Sunday at Mission Beach. 38 hardened souls from Atherton’s SFS (School of Field Studies) and Townsville’s JCU strapped on cleats, runners or bare feet for games of high standard Ultimate. Games were played in good spirit in hot, humid and damp conditions. The tourney was run as a Hat format with team C running out undefeated. Congrats to team C who won all three games; I would like to say they did not look like the stacked team of the tourney, yet played a running style which wore teams down, good work.
The final game was the classic grudge match of SFS v JCU. JCU nudged out SFS 7 to 3 in the shortened but tough game.
The MVPs for the tourney were Erin Ridley and Nathan Coppock, both of SFS.
So ends another tourney against our great rivals SFS from the northern region!"
Thanks to all who attended (especially Rowena Eastburne who certainly likes clocking up frequent flyer points).

PS. Don’t forget Townsville Royalty Hat on 9th May, next Saturday.

Get Your Arse to Townsville!
So Townsville has two tournaments coming up.
And Virgin is advertising a sale on tonight (7pm-10pm) that feature $19 fares Townsville-
Brisbane after 6 April. Jetstar also regularly advertises $65 fares.
Townsville people are also HUGELY welcoming on the billet front. They would totally love to have you. This could make for an excellent value tournament away.
Why not get out of your comfort zone and head on up to TSV for some Ultimate?
Townsville Hat - 9 May 2009 (if enough folks rego to fly in, this will be turned into a 2-dayer). This will be a big one, and you've got plenty of time to get organised.
Mission Impossible - Mission Beach Tournament - 12 April 2009. This event might be a bit more challenging for someone outside North Queensland - as its 3 hours drive from Townsville or 2 hours drive from Cairns. But totally worth your consideration. You'll be meeting 20+ Cairns Ultimate players that you've probably never met before. And you'll be surely able to get a lift from either end. And Mission Beach is GORGEOUS. Rego.
